Rosemary Brown Director of Operations

Coming from New Zealand to Australia in July 2014 I was unsure of what the future held, I knew that I did not fit the prescribed framework in NGO’s and government and had spent the last nine years self employed as a counsellor, facilitator and consultant. I was very apprehensive about my future and longed for an opportunity to continue to work in creating impact and social change at both a population and systemic level – I have found this in my role with Every Child CQ, the challenge of taking the organisation forward with ‘community inclusion’ and the prospect of influencing a new way of addressing the ‘wicked issues’ our communities face gets me out of bed every morning looking forward to my day, I feel confident that we are shifting the dial slowly from traditional ways of thinking, acting and evaluating toward a more socially innovative and inclusive community led and empowered way of working.

Rosemary initially joined Every Child CQ as the co-ordinator in March 2017, in her initial 6 months with the organisation Rosemary was instrumental in shifting Every Child CQ from operating under a project framework to being registered as Incorporated Association. This move has been significant in terms of governance and in establishing a sound business foundation from which to operate and grow the activities of Every Child CQ. As an incorporated association Every Child CQ is governed by the ECCQ Community Leadership Group that comprises of a diverse range of community members, from diverse backgrounds, this group is growing and offers opportunities for future prospective individuals/members to be an important part of creating success.

Rosemary’s designation was changed to Director of Operations in November 2017, to enable her to undertake the important business of the organisation at an appropriate level. Although Rosemary works alone much of the time her versatile skills and diverse experience have allowed her to work effectively with the Governance team and Management Committee to further cement structure and direction of the organisation. Her passion for being true to Social Innovation and Collective Impact enables both internal and external accountability to our mission and ensures we are always on track in checking and rechecking the direction we are taking. The community knows well Rosemary’s commitment to working differently and that to achieve this firstly, as individuals, we need to challenge ourselves to begin to think differently.

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of this country and recognise their connection to land, wind, water and community. We pay our respect to them, their cultures, and to the Elders both past and present.
